Trail Overview

NFS 6099/6098/6100 is a gorgeous, scenic, and classic Michigan two-track trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located near Winter Road and North 168th Avenue, this trail is easily accessible. Starting out, you'll begin on a sandy/dirt/gravel two-track in a section of the logged forest. Please be aware of any logging operations. The two-track is fairly wide without any overgrowth of vegetation or tight trees. As you navigate down the trail, you'll eventually enter a beautiful portion of towering pine trees. Coming from the SW side of the trail, at 0.7 miles in you'll encounter a fairly deep rutted out mud pit. This obstacle is fully dependent on recent weather and traffic. It can contain very deep, rutted-out spots worth watching out for. There are spur trails off this route that can also be explored. This trail finishes at the intersection of NFS 6097, where there's a large mud pit, which can be navigated around if you choose to avoid it. If you don't, proceed with caution. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle, with limited places to pass. Beyond the mud holes, this is not a difficult trail, and regardless of the length or conditions, it's a beautiful and scenic route to explore with a lot of fun to be had! As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands and the nearby private landowners so future generations can have access to these trails!
