Trail Overview
This trail features a fine sand surface that cuts through some creosote bushes as it navigates the terrain. The route runs along the base of the south side of Superstition Mountain, offering some of the best views of the mountain itself as you travel parallel to its imposing face. The sand is super fine and can be deep throughout, requiring constant momentum management. The trail can have some pretty big sand drifts that could be deep after windy storms, making conditions unpredictable and variable. The trail enters some actual sand dune areas where the terrain becomes more dynamic and challenging. Four wheel drive with good tires is highly recommended for these demanding sand conditions.

Difficulty
The super fine sand that can be deep is the main technical challenge, requiring four wheel drive with good tires, which is highly recommended. Airing down is essential for maintaining traction in the deep, fine sand. The pretty big sand drifts after windy storms can dramatically increase difficulty and may create impassable sections depending on recent weather. The actual sand dune areas demand excellent momentum management and skilled sand driving techniques. This trail rewards experienced sand drivers.
