Trail Overview

The L.T. Murray Wildlife Area, Whiskey Dick Unit is closed to motor vehicles from February 1st to May 1st for Elk migrations. This shrubsteppe habitat provides great views of the Wild Horse Wind Farm, Columbia River, Sentinel Gap, and the Saddle Mountains. With almost 30,000 acres of land, this area offers amazing trails with everything from gentle rolling hills to steep off-camber and rocky sections. Wildflowers in the spring are stunning.Use caution; this area can be very hot in the summer, with high winds. Be prepared, as there is limited cell coverage in many areas.

The trail was pretty straight forward. In a vehicle it would be considered a 2. I was riding a large adventure bike and the skills needed to get up some of the rocky switchbacks made it challenging. Great views!

Dust wasn’t bad but it had rained within the last 24 hours. Nothing truly difficult about this section of road other than one steep off camber section driving down to the pump house.

This road freaked my wife out with its switch backs, steepness and exposure. I thought it was fun and it was all doable in my burb.
