Trail Overview
This is a small hunting trail that cuts through the mountains to Avon Pass. It's very narrow in several spots, which makes passing other vehicles near impossible. It's mainly used by 4-wheelers and hunters. The trail is only open from July 15th to November 15th. It goes through private land, so if you want the trail to stay open, treat it with the utmost respect and stay on the trail!

Difficulty
The trail is easy, but uneven and rutted. It has the potential for loose rocks and sandy washes. Water crossings are less than a foot deep. There is also potential for mud holes and trail obstacles up to 12 inches, including ledges and short, steep grades. The roads are typically one vehicle wide.

This is one of the more difficult "easy" trails I've driven. The descriptions are pretty accurate, but recent rains have made the uphill sections a little harder and the rocks a little looser. Definitely a ride worth taking! beautiful scenery especially in the fall.

Short patch of loose sharp boulders in a series of tight corners on the downhill side headed west. A few deep ruts. Otherwise an easy 4x4 trail in a midsize truck.

Narrow trail, wide enough for a full size 4x4 but no room to pass on most of the trail. We didn’t see anyone else the whole way there and back. Some areas require 4WD unless you hit the hills with some speed. High clearance is necessary, lots of rocks. There are a few gates, the seasonal gate at the beginning is open and then another gate in the middle is closed but allowed to be open by the public as long as it is closed afterwards.

Trail was pretty busy with lots of SxS and ATVs. (I had about seven of each type pass me in the span of about 30 minutes). The trail is easy to descend in a SxS but intermediate to descend on a dirt bike. When it comes to ascending the trail, however, it’s more difficult. It’s probably an intermediate trail for side-by-sides and difficult trail for dirt bikes to ascend with all of the sandy surfaces, shale, and 12” boulders on the trail. I would not categorize this trail as easy based on the geology. I would make it an intermediate — 5/10 for SxS and 6/10 for dirt bikes based on the ascent.
