Trail Overview
This segment of Link 4 is a quick connector trail that is an easy way to connect from the west side of the loop (Salt Wash Trail) to the east side of the loop (Sovereign Trail) and vice versa. You'll see signs for Link 4 while riding towards it on segments of the Sovereign Trail, indicating you are close to the link. There are also signs on the Salt Wash Trail indicating to use Link 4 as a way to exit the trail system. Take this trail plus Lawson's Ledge to exit to Road D3569. There are several links between the two sides of the loop labeled as Link 1-5, and they can help break your ride up into shorter segments because both Salt Wash and Sovereign have very difficult spots that you may want to cut out of. This part of Link 4 is especially easy and can be ridden pretty quickly to connect the two sides of the loop. It goes through flat and easy desert terrain with a mix of slab and dirt, with a couple of small climbs over the desert mesas, but mostly on the desert floor between big rock outcroppings. There are frequent signs indicating to follow Link 4, which puts you out at the intersection with Sovereign and Lawson's Ledge. There is a second segment of Link 4 that will take you north towards Link 5, but this is an advanced section with challenging switchbacks and ledges that aren't recommended in the up-hill direction.
