Trail Overview

Glass Eye Spring-BLM 564-KC 3355 is a 5.6-mile out-and-back trail rated 3 of 10 located within Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and traverses the Wygaret Terrace. The trail winds its way to a turnaround point. From here, visitors cross through a fence and hike to two Native American sites. The first is a series of pit houses. This area is covered with thousands of pottery shards. Please remember that this is a protected site and removal of any artifact violates federal laws and protection acts. Continuing further to the cliff's edge provides vista views of the Kanab Plateau and cliffs. Finding the right spot to hike just over the cliff edge brings the visitor to an ancient cliff house. Much of this location is still original and some has been rebuilt. Getting to this location requires taking Nephi Pasture Road to the intersection and then heading south on Glass Eye Spring. The single-track road consists of mostly hard-packed sand and winds through pinyon pines and juniper which at times may encroach on the trail. Once into the interior of the National Monument, cell phone coverage is limited to trails close to Highway 89.
