Trail Overview

This is a very rocky and narrow trail that ends at a stunning high mountain lake and would be a great place for an overnight camp. There are a few easy water crossings and the views are spectacular. There is also an abandoned mine above the lake with a few remnants to explore. This is an in and out trail and takes 1-2 hours each way depending on rig and suspension.

Difficulty

The trail is mostly rock and fairly rough and bumpy for most of the trail. There are a few water crossings and the trail gets steeper and more challenging as you get closer to the lake with fun rock ledges to climb in spots. Minimum 33" tires and at least one locker and rock sliders recommended. Full sized rigs not recommended but can make it with a good spotter with the possibility of body damage.

Access to this trail is possible from a few routes but the easiest to find is through the town of Princeton, turn left on FS8501, then left on FS5184, which is also a fun but short trail, then right on FS78452 which is Thompson Lake Trail.
