Trail Overview

The trail has a mix of rock, water, stunning views, and mud. Winches are highly recommended. Stay out of the bay and stay on the trail. A Jeep badge can be earned by completing the loop. The first half of the trail has mild climbs and some mud and water. After the trail goes along the beach and returns into the woods, you are nearing the tank traps. (get your recovery gear ready)

The trail was wet and muddy but Marblehead was perfect.

Great trail! Was open, easy to access. Difficulties were moderate, and there are trails around the Tank Traps. Mud whole right after rain were deep in places but over all not bad. Very rocky.

If you want to avoid the tank traps, take the section of trail that goes north of it. The trail marked on here takes you to the south tank traps trail which has no bypass. You’ll see where the trail splits right near Shale Beach. Overall, this trail is rocky, wet, and rough but the views are rewarding! It is worth the drive every time!

Tank Traps are very dry after the first two traps. The first of traps is passable, the second might stop you. The rest and bone dry and extremely deep. The stairs are still a blast even after construction, and hard to beat the view.

Tank traps were super rutted but mostly dry. If it wouldn’t have a been dry, with the bypass, I would not have been able to make it with my mere 2” lift and 30s. The trip, one way, was about 2 hours with a stop at Shale Beach.

Started with the North Route to Marblehead and decided to come back this way. Between Shale Beach and Plywood Camp is easily accessible with a stock 4wd. Some water looks deep but they are hard bottoms. The trail south of Plywood Camp has some really deep water holes currently. There are some bypasses but very tight for a full size 4x4. Made it through with a stock Sasquatch Bronco with some technical driving. Some holes looked too deep with soft bottoms. Wouldn't recommend alone or without a winch in current conditions.
