Trail Overview

A beautiful and challenging out and back trail. You have many moments of sweeping top of peak views, and large sections of burned-out forest. The road surface is rutted, rocky with off-camber sections and lots of downed trees. Highly recommend bringing a chain saw with you. Paint and body damage is likely. One could Camp at the trailhead to Square top west horse trail then hike down to Reynolds Lake. Impassable in winter, with no winter maintenance. A few dispersed camping spots along the way. No Verizon service; you may see elk, large cats, deer, and many birds.

Difficulty

Deep ruts that may wash out. Off camber sections, Muddy potholes, Downed trees, and boulders from rock slides. Body damage from narrow sections of trees sticking into the trail is very possible.
