Trail Overview

Pilot Rock OHV offers spectacular views and water crossings along the hills near Silverwood Lake and Arrowhead Lake. Some of the surrounding cities include Lugo, Hesperia, and Apple Valley. It can take 1 to 4 hours to complete. If you didn't experience any SoCal traffic on the way to the trail, you might encounter some here. Watch for recreational vehicles (dirt bikes, ATVs, Polaris, etc.) and drive slowly around corners since parts of the trail are one-way. Tread lightly. Cell phone service can vary based on your provider and mobile device. You may experience drops in service along the way. Remember to download the trail to your offline maps in your app.

Difficulty

This trail is all about options. Its' technical rating can range from "easy" (if you stick to the fire road) to "extremely difficult," depending on which route you take. The fire road trail is easy enough for high clearance 2WD vehicles, but 4WD is recommended because certain parts are uneven and rutted with the potential for loose rocks. The optional obstacle bypasses that follow the fire road can challenge even the most experienced off-roaders with heavily modified 4x4 lifted vehicles because of the off-camber hard lines, deep holes, and steep grades. Please exercise extreme caution if you decide to take the advanced option alone. Use a spotter if you have a passenger.

Trail was fun !! it had a lot of different obstacles, not to hard but challenging to get you thinking and give you an adrenaline pump!! There are definitely some side trails that you can take that can be more challenging than just the regular road , so that is quite nice for the people who want to test their cars out or just feel extra motivated to do something a bit more challenging( as you can see in the 2nd pic this was one of the side trails that we had scouted and it seemed a bit to much for us so we just stuck to the original trail ) !! I also want to point out their is a washed up spot (I would say just over halfway down the trail ; coming from silverwood lake ) and it was intimidating for me lol but it was doable (the picture doesn’t do it any justice btw) overall I would say this trail is not a 2 I would give it a 3.5 if possible maybe a 4 because of some of the challenging areas. But it is definitely a fun one to take and it is worth checking out!!

High winds carried lots of sand, and my rig got covered both outside and inside. 2WD trucks can make this trail.

There was a puddle that is roughly 10 inches deep in the middle towards the beginning of the trail. Otherwise the trail was pretty enjoyable.
