Trail Overview

Senator Loop is a moderate trail in Crown King. Senator offers plenty of camping and scenic views of the Prescott National Forest. If you're visiting Horsethief Lake, the direct way is staying on Senator and following the signs. Taking Coal Springs Trail takes you to the Horsethief lookout tower, and loops back to the trail head. Off the main trail, there are hiking trails down into the canyon. Please respect private property signs. Senator Loop could be closed during heavy rains and snow.

Road from the town of crown king to the main campground areas has been fully grated and graveled so trip is super easy. If you continue the loop to the look out tower and back to the horsethief cabin area the road is rather easy done in 2wd. There is a short section that could get hairy for the unexperienced offroad but prove to not be a challenge in 4wd with the right line. I wasnt planning on needed 4wd but it was a must for the small climb.
