How to Find Overlanding Trails in the Desert

Wherever you’re planning your desert trip, onX Offroad can help you discover new trails. In the lower menu in your App, tap Discover. Zoom around the map to find trails within 100 miles of that location. In the Discover menu, tap Filter Trails to filter by vehicle and trail width. Green trails=open and ready for riding. Red trails=temporarily closed. Blue trails=Featured with detailed descriptions, difficulty and photos.

Tap a trail or anywhere on the map for more information like closure dates, trail descriptions and land management. Once you’re on the trail, onX Offroad helps you navigate and Track your trip, even when you’re out of service.

The onX Offroad App allows you to quickly and easily view public lands and boundaries on your phone, tablet and computer. Yellow land=BLM. Green land=National Forest. Purple land=national parks. Access 450K recreation points such as campgrounds and dispersed campsites, forest service cabins, lookouts and trailheads.

Tap a location anywhere on the map to add your own Waypoints for campsites, swimming holes, trailheads or difficulty ratings. Track your route, distance and speed, and save the Track for reference. Many places in the desert do not have cell service, but don’t worry. onX Offroad maps work without service. Before you head out, download the map of where you want to off-road. In the lower menu, tap Offline Maps and then tap New Offline Map. Maps are stored on your iPhone or iPad, and no service is required to view trails and add Waypoints. Navigate and Track your trips, even without service, using your phone or tablet’s GPS.
