Difficulty

Difficult. Easy drive to obstacle course. Fremonita Road is narrow and steep with loose rock. McCray Road is moderate but quite steep and narrow. The Tank Trap is an axle twister in a narrow, high-banked ravine.

History

Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area was originally a private hunting club. Patrons used Jeeps, motorcycles, and 'totegoats' to get around the trails on the ranch. In 1975, the area became an OHV park.

Access Description

Head south through Hollister on San Benito Street. Turn right at T on Union Road, cross bridge, then go left on Cienega Road. Go 1.4 miles and turn right at T where Hospital Road goes left. Go another 3.7 miles and turn right into ranger station. Pay entry fee and get the gate combination for the Upper Ranch. Return to Cienega Road and turn right. Head south to entry gate on right in about a mile. Relock the gate after passing through.
