Area 9 regulates hunting opportunities for whitetail deer in Wyoming and covers 627 square miles. Public lands comprise 357 square miles (57%) of the total land covered by this hunt area. The greater region is best serviced by Morrisey, Downtown Newcastle, and Clareton. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 3,800 feet to a high of 5,500 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 14 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area is a gateway to these forested areas: Black Hills National Forest. Additionally, 1 site is open to the public for access to managed private lands.
