Area 27 regulates hunting opportunities for black bear in Wyoming and covers 1,648 square miles. Public lands comprise 1,126 square miles (69%) of the total land covered by this hunt area. The greater region is best serviced by Hamilton Dome. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 4,300 feet to a high of 13,000 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 1,580 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. There are 5 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Shoshone National Forest, Washakie Wilderness. Additionally, 11 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
