District 312 regulates hunting opportunities for mountain goat in Montana and covers 1,375 square miles. Public lands comprise 1,037 square miles (76%) of the total land covered by this hunt district. The greater region is best serviced by Divide. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 5,100 feet to a high of 11,000 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 56 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 21 campgrounds, and 11 public fishing access sites. There are 13 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Beaverhead National Forest, Farlin Creek Wilderness Study Area, West Pioneer Mountains Wilderness Study Area. Additionally, 12 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
