Unit 12 regulates hunting opportunities for wildlife in Idaho and covers 1,190 square miles. Public lands comprise 1,190 square miles (100%) of the total land covered by this game management unit. The greater region is best serviced by Lowell, Syringa, and Musselshell. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 1,800 feet to a high of 8,800 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 2,280 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. There are 3 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Clearwater National Forest, Lolo National Forest, Nez Perce National Forest, Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness.
