Public lands comprise 2,839 square miles (72%) of the total land covered by this game management unit. The greater region is best serviced by Anderson Dam. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 2,500 feet to a high of 11,800 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 754 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 39 campgrounds, and 8 public fishing access sites. There are 52 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Boise National Forest, Challis National Forest, Sawtooth National Forest, Black Butte Wilderness Study Area, Black Canyon Wilderness Study Area, Deer Creek Wilderness Study Area, King Hill Creek Wilderness Study Area, Lava Wilderness Study Area, Little City of Rocks Wilderness Study Area, Sawtooth Wilderness, Sawtooth Wilderness Study Area, Shoshone Wilderness Study Area. Additionally, 22 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
