onX Backcountry Adds Hundreds of New Ski Routes for the 2025–26 Season

Expanding Beacon Guidebook Content in key areas across Colorado and Washington

MISSOULA, Mont. Jan. 21, 2026 — onX Backcountry, a navigation and discovery app for outdoor adventurers, today announced the addition of hundreds of new backcountry ski routes from Beacon Guidebooks for the 2025–26 ski season, delivering new content to some of the most iconic touring regions in Colorado and Washington

Available now in the app, the update expands access to trusted route beta while supporting safer, more informed decision-making in complex, variable mountain terrain. Areas with updates and new terrain include:

Silverton, Colorado:

  • 20+ entirely new zones with 200+ new descents from Beacon Guidebooks author Josh Kling.
  • New low-angle ski tours in ATES 1 (Simple) and ATES 2 (Challenging) terrain, offering options for lower exposure, particularly in variable avalanche conditions.
  • Tours in ATES 3 (Complex) and ATES 4 (Extreme) terrain, including technical spring descents, couloirs and 13K’ and 14K’ peaks.
  • Comprehensive route beta for every backcountry ski hut around Red Mountain Pass.

Vail Pass, Colorado:

  • 26 new zones, 152 new routes and 98 new descents on both sides of the pass from trusted partner, Beacon Guidebooks.
  • Additions of non-motorized zones, sled-skiing zones and hut trips.
  • Trailhead and access information.
  • Snowroads and snowmobile access routes.
  • Low-angle ski routes in ATES 1 (Simple) terrain.
  • Comprehensive routes around the backcountry ski huts in the area.

Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams, Washington:

  • 27 routes that define backcountry ski touring on southern Washington’s iconic volcanoes from Beacon Guidebooks author Eric Schmidgall.
  • Steep aesthetic couloirs and long mellow runs.
  • ATES ratings, glacial hazards and route recommendations.

Newly released guidebook content aligns with recent updates to avalanche terrain data in these regions, including expanded ATES (Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale) zone coverage and additional identification of low-angle terrain. onX Backcountry has also enhanced its Slope Angle Shading layer to highlight 12°–24° slopes, helping users identify low-angle turns while avoiding steeper, avalanche-prone terrain. Winter recreators can pair Beacon Guidebooks’ expertly vetted ski routes with onX Backcountry’s navigation and avalanche safety tools and access a dynamic digital resource for planning for and adapting to real-world conditions in the mountains.
