Volunteer Trail Work Event: Pikes Peak in Divide, CO

Join onX and the Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI) to help construct the new Devil’s Playground Trail on Pikes Peak. Volunteers will work alongside RMFI staff to contribute to an ongoing project that will eventually open a brand new section of trail. We’ll be building sustainable trail features and stabilizing the trail tread. The project currently sits just below tree line at around 12,000 feet. Volunteers should be prepared for a 2.5-mile one-way hike into the project site, with approximately 1,000 feet of elevation gain. This is strenuous work using tools in the outdoors at high elevation. Be prepared for a rewarding and impactful day of trail work on Pikes Peak!

More About the Project

The Devil’s Playground Trail is the western summit approach for Pikes Peak, traversing approximately seven miles and 4,300 feet starting from a trailhead located near the Crags Campground in Woodland Park, CO, and ends at the summit of Pikes Peak, elevation 14,115 feet. In 2019, RMFI broke ground on the new Devil’s Playground Trail, with the goal of rerouting the existing trail due to erosion, causing ecological impacts on the mountain. The trail is located entirely on the Pike National Forest and is one of two primary routes to the summit of Pikes Peak—one of the most visited mountains in the world. The Devil’s Playground Trail offers a shorter, less crowded route as compared to Barr Trail on the east side of the mountain, and provides hikers with stunning views of mountain ranges to the west.

🔥Win a Chainsaw! Not only will you feel good giving back to our shared trails, but one in every ten attendees will take home a brand-new STIHL chainsaw from each Trail Revival Project!
