Trail Overview
Sawyer Avenue - FS 118 is a scenic gravel two-lane trail that runs from Grover Drive to Perkinstown Avenue - FS 116. This gravel trail is wide enough for two vehicles for its entire length. The surface is smooth with few potholes or washboard sections. Sight lines are excellent across the entire length of the trail. Caution should be taken around the ditch lines of the trail, as there are many sections that do not have a ditch due to a large drop-off.
This trail is surrounded by scenic views thanks to all of the elevation changes that take place in this region of the national forest. There are large hillsides and drop-offs located along either side of the trail. The trail navigates through several swamp sections full of swamp grass, as well as pines and tamarack trees. The trails in this region are great for a gentle fall cruise thanks to all of the views created by the rolling terrain, as well as limited undergrowth in the forest, which helps to promote fantastic views. Cell service in this area is generally acceptable, and traveling with downloaded maps is not a requirement.
