FS 2423

FS 2423 runs from its intersection with Highway 70 to its intersection with FS 2452. This trail is a moderately wide forest road that twists and turns through the northern highlands of Wisconsin. The trail for most of its length is wide enough for two vehicles to pass each other at slow speeds. The trail surface begins as loose gravel when navigated from Highway 70 traveling east. After the trail crosses the Nicolet State Trail, it quickly turns into dirt. The trail has been freshly bulldozed, but the typical trail surface will be hard-packed dirt with small rocks that protrude through the surface. Depending on trail usage, there can be sections where long grass overgrows the centerline of the trail. The scenery on this trail is gentle rolling hills mixed with a variety of trees, as well as varying tree maturity, producing okay to good sightlines. Many parts of this trail can become very scenic during the fall months thanks to all of the tree coverage, which overhangs much of the trail. There are several clearings around this trail which would serve as great spots to set up a dispersed campsite. Cell service in this area can be spotty at best; traveling with downloaded maps is recommended to experience all of the trails this area has to offer.
