Trail Overview
Forest Road 2156 navigates from its intersection with East Halsey Lake Road to its intersection with Forest Road 2450. This trail is like many other longer forest roads in the Nicolet National Forest. It is moderately maintained with a firm gravel base. The trail is wide enough for two vehicles for its entire length. The trail's ditch lines are also moderately maintained, helping to eliminate brush along the trail sides; this allows for good sight lines throughout the length of the trail. The trail has a very good mix of rolling elevation changes, as well as winding and sweeping corners. This can really increase the enjoyment that can be had, and thanks to the width of the trail, a reasonable amount of speed can be carried on the trail. Sights along the trail are a very consistent mix of young and old-growth trees. Like many of the trails that have this type of scenery, it can be very scenic during peak fall colors. It can also be very scenic after peak colors. If timing is right, the trail surface can be blanketed by all the leaves. This trail is open to a variety of vehicle types, so be sure to remain aware and observant for all vehicle types. The cell service in this area is generally acceptable and is strong enough to load most maps, but can struggle when performing actions that require a larger amount of data. Traveling with downloaded maps is a great way to ensure that the area can be fully explored and the most enjoyment can be had.
Difficulty
This trail is very mild and can be enjoyed by anyone looking to get off the pavement or explore the area. The trail's surface is firm and does not have many places where mud holes and/or water spots can develop. If they do, they will typically be under 3 in deep. After periods of drought, it is possible for the trail to develop sections of washboard around corners and hills. Additionally, the trail can also become dusty. Sightlines throughout the trail are good and provide adequate views of the oncoming trail.
