Trail Overview
FS 104 runs from its intersection with Park Road - FS 106, to its intersection with Forest Road 102. This two-lane gravel trail runs along the edge of the Mondeaux Flowage. Views of the flowage are limited due to the thick forest that surrounds this area as well as the hill side which the trail navigates along the top of. Scenery around this trail is dominated by mature forests on either side of the trail; however, as the trail navigates further south, there will begin to be some clearings thanks to recent logging activity. There is an abundance of wildlife in this area thanks to the foliage, and sightings of deer, turkey, raccoons, and foxes are not uncommon. The trail surface is hard-packed gravel with loose gravel located along the edges and center of the trail. The trail is very smooth with little to no potholes or washboarding. The trail has a good mix of rolling hills and gentle corners. Sightlines on the trail are good, similar to many other trails in this section of the national forest. This trail, as well as this section of the national forest, is great for anyone looking for a mellow day on the trail with lots of views thanks to the rolling landscape. Cell service along the eastern edge of this section of the national forest can be spotty. While downloaded maps are not needed, it is always a good idea to at least have a low-quality map of the area as a backup.
Difficulty
This is a gentle, rolling gravel trail wide enough for two vehicles for the entire length. Sight lines are good to great, with few or no obstacles on the trail. As a forest road, there is always the potential for small branches on the trail or washouts due to heavy rainfall.
