Trail Overview

Diamond Roof Road - FS 2123 is a roughly 12-mile-long gravel route that navigates from its intersection with Sawyer Lake Road to its intersection with State Highway 32. This is a moderately maintained gravel forest road. The trail is wide enough for two vehicles in most areas, but like most forest roads, there are several areas where the trail narrows to only comfortably allow one vehicle when traveling at speed. The trail terrain is relatively flat for this region of the Nicolet National Forest. With only small rolling hills across the length of the trail. The scenery around the trail is a good mix of new growth, as well as old growth, mature sections of the forest. The trail navigates over and around several waterways in this area. While small, these areas can be a great spot to stop for a tranquil trailside lunch or break. There are several blind corners on this trail, which are created by the undergrowth along the trail edges. This is less of an issue in early spring riding or late fall. Cell service in this area is very spotty and does not work for some carriers. It is best to always travel with downloaded maps. This area has a large snowmobile trail presence in the winter months. While there are some roads within the forest that do not have sled traffic, it is best to avoid them in the winter months, as navigation can be challenging or not allowed.

Difficulty

This trail can be completed by riders of all experience levels. The trail is wide enough for two vehicles in most locations; however, sight lines in and around some corners can be challenging due to the undergrowth in the surrounding forest. Like any gravel forest road, washboards can be expected from time to time, especially around corners or by hills. Also, after recent storms, there is the possibility of small branches or debris making their way onto the trail.
