Trail Overview
Round Mountain is a 4.3-mile out-and-back route that follows a single-lane gravel road through forested terrain. The road is generally easy to navigate, though some sections feature loose gravel and moderate brush encroachment that may contact wider vehicles. Several small dispersed campsites are located along the route, making it a good option for visitors looking for a quiet basecamp. The road ends at a small turnaround near the end of the route. Round Mountain is open year-round to highway-legal vehicles.
Difficulty
Round Mountain is generally an easier route, with the primary challenges being occasional loose gravel and moderate brush encroachment in a few sections. Most vehicles with reasonable ground clearance should have little difficulty navigating the road, though drivers should expect some pinstriping where vegetation narrows the corridor. Weather conditions such as rain can increase difficulty slightly, particularly where loose gravel becomes slick. As with most trails in the area, bringing a chainsaw or equipment to clear fallen trees is recommended.
