Trail Overview
Bolt Camp is a 3.2-mile out-and-back route that climbs through dense forest to a small turnaround with an established fire ring. The trail becomes increasingly brushy as it gains elevation and features several heavily rutted sections that will test vehicle articulation. Numerous small trees are down across the route, along with several low-hanging widowmakers. A washout is present beyond the first intersection, but it remains passable. Due to the rough terrain, rutting, and obstacles, Bolt Camp is best suited for high-clearance 4WD vehicles. Bolt Camp is open year-round and is legally accessible by highway-legal vehicles only.
Difficulty
Bolt Camp is a challenging route best suited for high-clearance 4WD vehicles. The primary obstacles are the heavily rutted sections, which can test vehicle articulation and ground clearance, along with numerous downed trees and low-hanging widowmakers. Brush encroachment becomes more significant as the trail climbs, making the route less suitable for wider vehicles. The washout beyond the first intersection remains passable but requires attention. Conditions become significantly more difficult when wet, and the trail surface becomes soft. As with most trails in the area, bringing a chainsaw or equipment to clear fallen trees is recommended.
