Trail Overview
FS 9091000 Spur D is an unmarked, narrow gravel spur off FS 9091000 that looks unmaintained from the outset. It is heavily overgrown, meaning older trees and brush will scrape the vehicle through the tightest stretches. Lupine brightens the route, which opens up briefly around 0.4 miles before a washout crosses the road near 0.5 miles. At 0.7 miles, a large, flat dispersed camping area opens on the left, consisting mostly of grass and gravel, with easy room for five or more vehicles plus tents. Just around the corner, the trees give way to a massive open view of a rocky cliff with Mount Adams beyond, providing a genuine secret-spot payoff. The driving itself is easy; the only real cost is some cosmetic brush damage on the way in. For anyone who does not mind a few scratches, the worthwhile ending makes this a strong recommendation.
Difficulty
Mechanically, the spur is easy, with no significant ruts, rocks, grades, or technical obstacles, and the lone washout crossing is minor. The only real challenge is heavy overgrowth in a narrow corridor, which can scratch a vehicle's paint but does not affect drivability, so capable and standard vehicles alike can manage it at a slow pace.
