Trail Overview

Council Lake (FS 2334-016) forks off the main Council Lake road as a short, well-graded spur, wide but single-lane over dirt and gravel, leading to one of the nicer destinations in the area. It ends at an established campground with a privy, an info board, and numerous car-camping sites with fire rings. Camping is first-come, first-served and not free, though no reservation is needed. The lake itself is a striking, beautiful blue-green that is deceptively large until you reach the shore. It features easy water access that makes it an excellent spot for kayaking or paddleboarding. Several nearby spurs lead to tent sites and hiking trails that feed into the campground, rounding out an easy drive to a genuinely worthwhile lakeside basecamp.

Difficulty

The spur is short and well-graded dirt and gravel, wide for a single lane and free of significant ruts, rocks, or grades. It is comfortable for essentially any vehicle; the unmaintained dirt-and-gravel surface is all that keeps it from a fully maintained-road rating.
