Trail Overview

East Fork Mitchell is a 3.5-mile-long easy ATV trail near the town of Chelan, Washington. The trail starts off Grade Creek Road, and it climbs and winds up the hillside on a wide path. The trail has minor technical features such as small loose rocks, shallow ruts, embedded rock surfaces, and loose dirt, but overall it’s a very easy route that should be manageable by all skill levels. It’s silty in spots and will likely be a very dusty ride. Part of the trail becomes more shelfy, like an old shelf road, following the curvature of the hillside. The trail is very wide, approximately 10 feet across, but riders should still use caution in these exposed zones. Most of the trail is on a sun-exposed grassy open hillside covered in shrubs, with no shade. There are several good views as you ride up the hillside, passing some unique rock outcroppings. The trail is designated for vehicles less than 50 inches wide by the Chelan Ranger District, but the trail signs do not indicate the designation in person, so you may see UTVs and wider vehicles out here by accident, as it looks like a road from the beginning. The trail narrows in segments of bushes, making it only ideal for ATVs and motorcycles. The trail looks lightly trafficked, but it was clear of any logs and the route was passable (as of July 2026).
