Trail Overview
Mitchell Creek Trail is a 7 mile long easy ATV trail near the town of Chelan, Washington. The trail starts off of Grade Creek Road, and it climbs and winds up the hillside on a wide path that has shallow ruts, big loose rocks, and loose dirt. The first two miles of trail are the steepest, as it climbs up over 1000 feet elevation and passes the intersection with Mitchell Gold Ridge. After the intersection, the trail resembles an old shelf road, following the curvature of the hillside on a flat shelf. The trail is very wide, but riders should still use caution in these exposed zones. Most of the trail goes across a sun-exposed grassy hillside covered in shrubs, with no shade. A few sections have more trees, but it is mostly wide open with panoramic views off the side of the trail. The shelf trail continues following the hillsides for another few miles, very gradually, until it reaches the intersection with East Fork Mitchell Trail. The trail is designated for vehicles less than 50” wide by the Chelan Ranger district, but the trail was unmarked, with no designations in person, so you may see UTVs and wider vehicles out here by accident. It is one vehicle wide most of the time, and is only ideal for ATVs and dirt bikes. The trail looks lightly trafficked, with overgrown grass in parts of the trail, but it was clear of any logs and the route was passable (as of July 2026).
Access Description
A valid Washington State Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) registration decal, or a recognized out-of-state permit, is required for all OHVs, ATVs, and dirt bikes operating on these forest roads. All vehicles must be equipped with a US Forest Service-approved spark arrestor and functional headlights and taillights if riding during low-light hours.
