Trail Overview
Cooper Road is a 4.6-mile out-and-back route that follows a single-lane gravel road through forested terrain. The road is generally smooth and easy to travel, with only occasional washboarding and sections of water damage. As the route approaches its end, brush encroachment begins to narrow the road corridor. The trail terminates at a small parking area that provides access to nearby hiking opportunities, including the Mineral Creek Trail. The route offers a quiet drive through the forest and serves as a convenient access point for exploring the surrounding wilderness.
Difficulty
Cooper Lake is an easy route suitable for most vehicles. The primary obstacles are occasional water-damaged sections and washboarding, neither of which is particularly difficult in dry conditions. Brush encroachment near the end of the road may result in minor pinstriping for wider vehicles, but overall, the route remains straightforward. Conditions can become more challenging after storms or during spring runoff when erosion features are more pronounced. As with most forest roads in the area, bringing a chainsaw or equipment to clear fallen trees is recommended.
