Trail Overview

Stave Creek is a 2.3-mile out-and-back route that follows a single-lane gravel road through forested terrain. The road is generally smooth and easy to travel, with the exception of several areas impacted by rutting and water damage. These erosion features become the defining characteristic of the route and can require careful tire placement in places. The road is currently blocked by a significant windfall at mile 2.3, preventing further travel.

Difficulty

Stave Creek is moderately challenging due to the presence of deep ruts and water-damaged sections. While the road surface is otherwise smooth, the erosion features are substantial enough that high-clearance 4WD vehicles are recommended. Drivers should be prepared to cross several ruts that may cause undercarriage contact for lower-clearance vehicles. Weather conditions can increase difficulty, particularly where ruts become muddy or hold standing water. As with most trails in the area, bringing a chainsaw or equipment to clear fallen trees is recommended.
