Trail Overview

Long Haul Hollow is a difficult Off- Highway Vehicle Trail within the Sundquist Unit of the North Cumberland Off- Highway Vehicle Riding Area, north of the town of LaFollette, Tennessee. It’s a rocky climb from north to south, gaining about 700 feet in elevation before it connects to Muse Hollow Trail. The north end starts out with bigger rock obstacles right away that are slippery, embedded boulder faces and small ledges, mixed in with roots and deep ruts on a steep climb. The trail is a greasy clay-and-mud consistency. There are a few split lines during the initial rocky climb, but often both lines have rock obstacles, so there is not just an easy bypass. The rock obstacles will require articulation and careful tire placement. Later sections of the trail are significantly troughed and dug out below the forest floor, and there is a tight rock pinch between two mossy rock walls that will prevent wider vehicles from passing. Expect steep and greasy climbs, and watch out for a few low branches or downed logs over the trail. There are big mud puddles and some off-camber sections due to the uneven ruts that will be even more difficult when wet. The trail goes through a very scenic and lush Appalachian forest, with mossy rock walls, weaving between the oaks and maple trees.
