Trail Overview

This trail is a well-maintained red gravel road that begins directly off the main road and serves as an important access route through the forest. The road is generally wide enough for two-way traffic and has only minor corrugations, making for a comfortable drive. At the first intersection, stay to the left, as the road to the right leads to a private company property. There are a few residences near the beginning of the trail, so watch for local traffic. This is also an active logging route, and logging trucks regularly use the road, so remain alert, especially around corners. About 2.2 miles into the trail, there is a sand quarry used by the logging company. This area is private property and should not be used as a staging or parking area. Beyond the developed section, the trail enters the National Forest where numerous side roads and spur trails branch off. Some are well maintained while others are unmaintained and more suitable for capable off-road vehicles. Certain areas are designated as closed to motorized travel, so be sure to follow all posted signs and stay on legal routes. As the trail climbs toward the plateau, the surface becomes sandier and can become slippery in wet weather. After reaching the top, the road gradually descends before passing a snowmobile trail and the entrance to a National Wildlife Refuge. Please respect all refuge regulations and remain on designated roads.
