Trail Overview

Splitting off FS 5830 toward the east-southeast, FS 5830210 functions as an out-and-back woodland spur poking into a quieter pocket of the timber. Set within the Mt. Hood National Forest, the corridor cuts under a thick, towering evergreen canopy of fir and hemlock with salal and ferns crowding the shoulders. The route rolls over a firm, single-lane base of packed crushed gravel and native soil with a level 1 difficulty rating. Most folks head down this track to scout quiet, tucked-away dispersed campsites or to peel off onto FS 5830220 for deeper exploration. While the roadway technically shows on older maps beyond the FS 5830220 junction, nature has fully taken back the ground past that fork, abruptly choking off the forgotten roadbed with impassable blowdown and dense brush.

Difficulty

Earning a level 1 rating, this track is a mellow forest lane featuring virtually flat grades over a solid gravel roadbed. Ground clearance remains a non-issue simply by staying centered along the established tire paths and rolling smoothly over small surface stones. Thicker side brush encroaches on the margins in a couple of pinch points, causing minor foliage contact along vehicle flanks, but forward line-of-sight remains clear. Turn around in the open intersection at the FS 5830220 junction, as attempting to push past the fork runs directly into impassable log jams and choking scrub with zero room to reverse.
