Trail Overview

This trail has sections with sheer cliff drop-offs and significant exposure. It is not recommended for anyone uncomfortable with heights, and drivers should use extreme caution near the unprotected edges. This well-maintained gray gravel road climbs steadily from the main road into the mountains, following a narrow, winding route with frequent twists and turns. The road is mostly single-lane, with a few pullouts where vehicles can safely move aside for oncoming traffic. Because visibility is limited around many corners, watch carefully for other vehicles, even though the route generally sees little traffic. As the road climbs higher, the scenery becomes increasingly impressive. The route reaches the mountain ridge and follows it for a stretch, with beautiful views across the surrounding forest and open areas along the high elevations. There are several clearings near the top that appear suitable for stopping, although visitors should follow all current fire restrictions, particularly given the area’s history of wildfire. The trail eventually leaves the ridge and descends back through forest filled with tall fir trees and dense vegetation. Although fallen trees have been cleared, some large logs and debris remain near the roadway, along with potholes that require attention. The road remains generally well maintained, but its narrow width and steep terrain call for careful and slower speeds.
