Trail Overview
This gravel road is well maintained for the first mile, including the section around Sunnyside Campground. Beyond Slide Creek, the road deteriorates significantly and becomes much rougher, with numerous large potholes that require slow and careful driving. The route runs alongside the reservoir and mountain slopes, where landslides, rockfall, branches, and other debris can occur, particularly during rainy conditions. The surface is dusty, light-colored gravel and receives little maintenance beyond the campground area. Several trailheads and access points are along the route, including the East Fork Trailhead, which leads farther into the mountains. Bears and cougars are present in the area, so use caution when stopping or walking around. Several boat launches were closed as of August 2026, likely due to wildfire impacts in the area.
Difficulty
Large potholes, rockfall, landslide debris, and deteriorating road conditions make the section beyond Slide Creek significantly more challenging.
