Trail Overview
Crampton Road is a 9.7-mile point-to-point route that begins as a wide gravel road with some mild ruts and larger potholes. As the route climbs, it becomes rougher and rockier, with conditions deteriorating near the upper sections where low-clearance vehicles are not recommended. North of the intersection with Mount Emily Road, the route narrows and continues to become more challenging. No up-to-date information is available regarding seasonal open and close dates.
Difficulty
Crampton Road is suitable for most 2WD and low-clearance vehicles in the lower sections, though conditions become more challenging beyond the intersection with Mount Emily Road. The primary challenges include larger potholes and mild rutting early on, with increasingly rocky and uneven surfaces past the intersection, where higher clearance is recommended. The route also narrows in these upper sections, with limited passing opportunities. Weather conditions such as rain or snow can increase difficulty. As with most trails in the area, bringing a chainsaw or equipment to clear fallen trees is recommended.
