Trail Overview

Turkey Knob is a short 0.32-mile loop trail that can be difficult to follow in places due to overgrown vegetation. The route features some embedded rock and a small step-up obstacle that is easy to miss if riders are not paying attention. At the main intersection, riders should keep right to climb the step-up. Although Turkey Knob is legally accessible to all vehicle types within MERA, the step-up obstacle is narrow and soft, and larger 4x4 vehicles may damage the trail. The final attached photo shows the beginning of the loop, where riders can continue either left or right. An Oregon State ATV operating permit is required for all vehicles within the Mount Emily Recreation Area. The trail is open year-round; however, management requests that trails not be used when mud sticks to tires.

Difficulty

Turkey Knob is a more technical short loop, primarily due to the approximately 2-foot-tall step-up obstacle near the center of the trail. Riders should keep right at the intersection to approach the obstacle. Additional challenges include embedded rock and limited trail definition, which can make navigation more difficult for first-time riders. The trail is best suited for more experienced riders comfortable with small ledges and uneven terrain. Conditions become significantly more difficult when wet, and riders should avoid using the trail when mud sticks to tires.
