Trail Overview
Rock Pit Road is a 1-mile point-to-point trail that follows a narrow route with several rock gardens scattered throughout. A couple of heavily rutted sections add to the difficulty, particularly for wider vehicles. The trail is short but consistently rough, with uneven terrain from start to finish, and can be combined with Mainline to create a loop. An Oregon State ATV operating permit is required for all vehicles within the Mount Emily Recreation Area. The trail is open year-round; however, management requests that trails not be used when mud sticks to tires.
Difficulty
Rock Pit Road is one of the more technical 4x4 trails within this section of MERA, with multiple rock gardens and a couple of heavily rutted sections that can challenge traction and ground clearance. The narrow trail corridor can make line choice more difficult, particularly for larger vehicles. Most obstacles are moderate in size, but the rough, uneven terrain remains consistent throughout the route. Conditions become significantly more difficult when wet, and riders should avoid using the trail when mud sticks to tires.
