Trail Overview

Great trail for the family! Relatively moderate throughout the whole trail. It gets rocky and is very bumpy. There are some sand washes and one creek crossing. The end of the trail hosts a ton of petroglyphs that are dated over 10,000 years old. Explore the area and find glyphs, just be sure to bring your hiking boots. It takes about 2 hrs in a SxS and probably 3-4 in a 4x4. Accessible with a moderate four-wheel drive. There are some semi-steep hills. The trail is beginner-friendly. The surrounding area has great views and there is a plane crash site around, if you can find it!

Difficulty

During spring, late fall, and winter the trail can be more difficult due to water and snow. Jagged rocks can puncture tires if you are not careful. Creek crossings can be hazards in wet months.

We started from the Lockwood TH. I recommend you air down & release the sway bar. A rocky trail with some off camber points. The trail was dry at the creek crossings, but I can see how they would be more fun in the spring. Some good scenery along the way. We broke right at the Lousetown creek crossing. This took a straighter path to VC cutting off a few hours. Trail time was about 2 hours

I ran half of the trail coming up from Virginia City. Thoroughly enjoyable Four Wheeling and I had come up from Silver queen/jumbo grade before this. Saw lots of wildlife, including the horses with the enclosed photos. Superb day of backcountry Four Wheeling with virtually no other humans. I would call the trail a Four, as far as technicality, at the most.

very wet with snow at some higher elevations. The mud had clay and packs the tires which resulted in slick conditions driving up and down hills which then made it difficult to steer.
