Trail Overview

Vermigrade Spur D can be run from the top of the hill or from the bottom near County Road 180. Starting at the top, it begins with loose gravel and dirt before reaching the Pelican River Overlook, which has a gorgeous view of the river, picnic tables, and a grill. A public toilet is a short distance farther down the trail. Heading downhill, the trail becomes a mix of sand, mud, and loose rocks, with loose gravel on some corners, so use caution when descending. There are relatively few obstacles, though a few holes can become more challenging depending on weather and conditions. Several spurs branch off for ATVs and smaller 4x4s, and a few areas along the trail are suitable for dispersed camping. Be sure to follow all Forest Service regulations and camping restrictions if staying overnight. Overall, this is an easy, scenic trail that makes for a great day out, with a little excitement from the hill.
