Trail Overview
Verigrade Spur A 601A branches off the main Verigrade Trail and starts out as a gravel route before quickly becoming more adventurous, with mud, loose rocks, and water along the trail. As you move farther in, the vegetation begins to close in around you, including growth in the center of the trail. High clearance is definitely recommended, especially as the trail becomes more overgrown and you need to stay up and out of the vegetation to avoid creating a fire hazard.
Farther along, the trail gets increasingly overgrown, with loose gravel, loose rocks, and grass becoming part of the trail surface. It is primarily a single-lane route with only a few opportunities to pass, so be prepared to take your time and watch for other vehicles.
Near the end is a camping area that could make a great spot for those looking for a more isolated, open place to spend the night. Overall, Verigrade Spur A 601A is a more adventurous spur that combines mud, water, rocks, tight vegetation, and narrow trail conditions. It's a good choice for a higher-clearance 4x4 looking to get farther off the main trail and into a more secluded area.
Difficulty
This trail is more open at the beginning but becomes more of a challenge further up, with deeper holes and more large rocks. Eventually, the vegetation closes in along the trail, and the grass in the center can grow tall because the trail is not maintained regularly.
