Trail Overview
Kjostad Spur B (FS 609B) is another spur off the 609 trail system, but this one offers a different kind of challenge. The trail is extremely tight, with vegetation growing very close to the route and making the narrow trail feel even more confined. Because of the overgrowth, rocks, holes, and low-lying areas with potentially hidden water can be difficult to see, so slow and careful driving is important.
There are several areas that may offer opportunities for dispersed camping, but be sure to follow all applicable regulations before setting up camp. The combination of tight vegetation, hidden obstacles, and potentially wet areas makes this a trail where you need to pay close attention to what is directly in front of you.
Overall, FS 609B is a fun spur for those looking for a more primitive and secluded adventure. I would recommend it for high-clearance vehicles, ATVs, and side-by-sides, but I would not recommend it for full-size vehicles due to how close the vegetation gets to the trail. If you're comfortable with a tight trail and don't mind the possibility of vegetation brushing the vehicle, this one can provide a worthwhile challenge.
Difficulty
This trail has vegetation encroaching into the trail and some obstacles, such as holes, rocks, mud, and water.
