Trail Overview
Kjostad Spur H (FS 609H) branches off the main FS 609 Trail and starts as a narrow, single-lane two-track with vegetation growing through the center. As you continue, you'll encounter mid-sized rocks, close trees, and occasional openings that provide a little variety along the route. There are also some interesting sections where large flat rocks and boulders protrude from the ground, adding a bit of a challenge without making the trail overly technical.
Farther in, the trail becomes increasingly overgrown, with more grass covering the tracks and the possibility of fallen trees across the route. The farther you go, the less suitable it becomes for a full-size or high-clearance 4x4, with the end being better suited for ATVs and side-by-sides. There is also a camping area along the trail, but be sure to follow all applicable camping regulations.
Overall, FS 609H is a fun spur for those looking for a narrower and more primitive trail. It offers close vegetation, rocks, boulders, and the possibility of downed trees, with the challenge increasing as you go. Full-size 4x4 drivers should know their limits and consider turning around before the trail becomes too tight, while ATV and side-by-side riders can continue farther into the more difficult sections.
