Trail Overview
FS 20 is an 11-mile forest road located within Fort Stewart that winds through beautiful pine forests with long stretches of sugar sand, seasonal puddles, and occasional rutted sections. The route offers a peaceful drive and provides access to other forest roads, wildlife viewing opportunities, and areas used for camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreation throughout the installation. While generally well maintained, loose sand and wet conditions can increase the difficulty.
Access Notice: This trail is located on Fort Stewart property and is open to the public with the appropriate iSportsman permit. Recreation users must obtain the required permit, verify the training area is open, and check in/out through the iSportsman system before entering. Depending on your permit and the area you access, Fort Stewart offers opportunities for camping, hunting, fishing, pond access, hiking, birdwatching, kayaking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing.
Fort Stewart Access: Public access is permitted with the appropriate iSportsman permit. Check the current area status and complete the required check-in before entering, as training schedules may affect availability.
Difficulty
An easy forest road with sections of loose sugar sand, light rutting, and seasonal puddles. Suitable for stock 4WDs and capable AWD vehicles in dry conditions. Wet weather can create softer sand and deeper water, increasing the difficulty.
Trail Conditions: Conditions can change quickly due to military vehicle traffic, weather, and maintenance. Expect occasional washouts, downed limbs, or fresh ruts.
