Trail Overview

Follow a high ridge south of Red and White Mountain and then drop steeply into June Creek Canyon to Avon. There is an option to skip the descent and head over Muddy Pass, or loop back to the beginning. The parking lot fills up quickly. Trail open date depends on weather, but typically it is open June through mid-November.

Pretty views, especially towards the eastern junction with Red Sandstone Rd, and near the top with the expansive south views. Ended up being a bit trickier than expected, not the worst road I’ve made it through in the subie but definitely had some scraping on my skid plates a good few times. A lot of sections of the road aren’t awful, just with large water bars, and deep ruts that are pretty easily avoidable. There are some areas with a lot of erosion/damage from when the road was wet, exposing large rocks and somewhat deep mud pits. Would not recommend this road for other compact AWD SUVs without protection/lifting/good tires, and wouldn’t come here when wet without 4L at least.

Started at the bottom and drove about an hour up before turning around (we only had a short 2 hour window to head out). A local had described it as “just a dirt road” - but definitely more technical than that description. Very rocky, loose gravel, some large ruts, and largely narrow / single width without many opportunities to pull over to pass. FUN but rocky the whole way, so definitely a slow journey up. No obstacles that our 2004 Wrangler couldn’t handle easily.

Rode on a motorcycle, Lots of puddles, and one mud hole that caused a truck to need traction boards- likely to trap unmodified or unprepared rig.
