Trail Overview

Radical Hill is more psychological than technical, featuring narrow ledge roads that can sometimes be off-camber. The trail, visible zig-zagging up the mountain face from Red Cone and Webster Pass, starts at 10,000 feet on Webster Pass and climbs to over 12,000 feet. Highlights include meadows, creek crossings, and remnants of Colorado's mining history. The ascent to the summit is extremely narrow and unsuitable for wide or long vehicles. The final turn is tight and steep, requiring caution. At the summit, you'll enjoy 360-degree views of the Continental Divide. Mountain sheep are often seen grazing, tolerant of photographers. Radical Hill connects to Deer Creek and St. Johns trails, leading back to Montezuma.

Difficulty

The early portions of Radical Hill can be quite rocky with some rock gardens to pick through. Once you get to the ascent, the trail becomes a extremely narrow ledge road with the final turn to the top being very tight and steep.

Jeep Gladiator slid off trail on loose switchback and is blocking half the trail. Only motorcycles and mountain bikes can get past it. The owner is working on getting an off road recovery team to help get it out.

Finished the trail in a stock 2018 ZR2 with 33s. Needed spotters for some obstacles but otherwise not to terrible. It gets narrow for the last couple switchbacks getting to the peak that felt tight. True 7/10 and do-able if you’re careful but definitely recommend some more clearance.

Ran it with a Sasquatch Bronco and a Bronco Raptor. Sasquatch hung the factory steps on a couple of the larger rocks and tickled the frame, but walked the main obstacle. Raptor cleared everything but it’s as wide of a rig as you’d ever want up there. Perfect fit for the Squatch. The whole track is rocky from bottom to summit. Lower middle section has turned into a small creek with runoff, making things a little slippery. Upper section is dusty and loose.

Rougher than it was a few years ago. Stock Rubicon JLU, some rubbing nothing crazy. Narrow and washed out however, wouldn't take this trail in anything larger than a Jeep.

Trail clear until the summit where snow is still blocking the trail. Modified 4Runner could not pass. Trail is flowing runoff making the surface slick in places.

Decided to go through the snow because there was somebody else on the other side with a winch, took a winch and 2 recovery ropes to pull me through but I would definitely say the snow is impassable still.

Gatekeeper is a bit tougher this year. There is a large snow drift about half way up the trail that is impossible.

More rough throughout the trail than expected. Last couple switchbacks are definitely hair raising with a few narrow parts that have to be navigated carefully.
