Fawn Creek Road

Fawn Creek Road (FS 280) is an easy Forest Service route north of Meeker, well-suited for overlanders. It’s a straightforward backcountry road rather than a technical 4x4 trail, offering access into the Blanco Ranger District of White River National Forest. Located in the Blanco Ranger District, National Forest System Road 280 follows Fawn Creek through rolling sagebrush hills and high desert terrain typical of this part of western Colorado. FS 280 is open to highway-legal vehicles as designated on the official White River National Forest Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) for the Blanco Ranger District. There are no major technical obstacles in dry conditions, and high-clearance SUVs or 4x4 trucks are more than sufficient. Two-wheel-drive vehicles can typically travel the road when dry, but 4WD is recommended during wet or shoulder-season conditions.
